Ever since its inception, the member agencies have been increasing and from a handful of trekking agencies in the initial stage, it now has nearly 600 members. Though in the initial stage, TAAN confined its members to the domestic agencies only, it has opened up its membership to foreign organizations as well. It has 14 associated members now.
Its member agents meet every year to endorse policy guidelines, which govern the executive body. It frequently communicates with the concerned bodies of the government to simplify the procedures and solve the problems related to trekking business. The executive body has 19 members, among which 14 are elected by general members and two more are ex-official members while three are nominated by the executive committee. It also has a chapter in Pokhara, where around 50 trekking and adventure operators are affiliated.
Objectives and Function of TAAN
☞To develop and promote mountain tourism in Nepal.
☞To contribute to preserve the mountain environment of Nepal.
☞To contribute for the uplift of mountain economy of Nepal.
☞To preserve the rights and promote member trekking agencies.
☞To extend to the best of its ability, help cooperate and advice individuals interested in trekking.
☞To make a wide search of the new trails and regions feasible for trekking and help the Government of Nepal and trekking agencies for its further development.
☞To regularize the facilities provided by member trekking agencies to their staff, including porters. ☞To provide necessary opinions and advice to government for the formulation of the rules and regulations related to mountain tourism.
☞To promote mountain tourism in collaboration with various government and semi-government bodies, domestic and international NGOs.
☞To cooperate with national and international organizations dealing with trekking and mountaineering training for the formulation of practical courses of study.
Activities of TAAN
1.Promotional Activities are to:
☞Organize different meetings, conferences, seminars and incentive programs regarding tourism activities.
☞Participate in tourism related fairs, marts and conferences within and outside the country.
☞Submit regular advices on matters relating to tourism promotion to the Government of Nepal.
☞Publish and distribute complimentary copies of newsletter, member directory and other useful booklets pertaining to tourism.
2.Environment Activities are to:
☞Establish cordial relations and exchange delegations with organizations of other countries.
☞Support and recommend its members on promotional activities.
☞Organize training and workshop on environment awareness courses.
☞Participate in and support government's world environment day program.
☞Organize various environment conservation programs such as a forestation and clean up program.
☞Organize various student level competitions to raise environment awareness among them.
☞Organize talk programs with the view to educate the concerned general public about the importance of tourism and maintenance of ecological balance.
3.Charitable Activities are to:
☞Raise and deliver the fund for the victims of various disasters like earthquake, landslide, flood, etc.
☞Assist people in distress by dispatching rescue teams to help at times of mishaps like bus, air and other accidents.
☞Raise and deliver the fund for the maintenance of bridges and roads in trekking region.
