Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN)

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, the only regulatory authority of the state boasts of playing a very catalytic role in the country's socio-economy and tourism promotion. It was established in January,1996 under civil aviation authority act.1997 (2053 B.S.). Its vision is to make air services an effective vehicle of high economic growth through wide scale tourism promotion and accessibility. Therefore, it is set to fulfill its mission to ensure safe, secured, efficient, standard and quality service in civil aviation and airport operations.

Function of CAAN
☞Registration of civil aircraft, and issuance or withdrawal of operating licenses to airline                         companies.
☞Management for air safety and airport security.
☞Construction, development and expansion of airports.
☞Issuance of AOC and flight permission, testing and checking airworthiness and issuance of                   airworthiness certificates.
☞Issuance of licenses and rating certificates to pilots, engineers and other technicians.
☞Air Traffic Control(ATC) and flight information service.
☞Communication and flight information service.
☞Implementation of bilateral air services agreement.
☞Determination of air routes and their management.
☞Training technical manpower and development, and formulation of various manuals.
☞Primary investigation of air accidents and implementation of safety recommendations made by air       accident probe commission and committee.
☞Coordination with international travel and tourism organization and implementation of the                  standard and norms.
